And the cat too…….

Posted by: Amy G. on: October 15, 2009

I haven’t written a post in 5 days, I have a good excuse – really.

Our cat Beeper aka “my old boy” who is 20 1/2 years old suddenly started acting funny and it looked like we would have to start preparing ourselves for the time to say good bye. Yesterday I took him to Dr. Dana (love our vet) and after blood tests, some IV fluids and Beeper eating a can of special diet cat food – we find out he has an overactive thyroid, just like me. Well, mine was nuked – his prescription was called into Costco and yesterday he started on medication to slow it down.

For 20 1/2 years old, his other tests came back super for his liver, kidney, glucose. He still isn’t himself, he’s been hiding in our master closet, but he is coming out and meowing at me, so that’s a good sign.

So I have been a bit preoccupied and I have been doing my Wii for 1/2 hour a day instead of the usual hour. I am 104.9 so it is down but I don’t know if it’s a healthy decrease or just my anxiety. We got Beeper at 3 weeks old and I bottle fed him wrapped in a receiving blanket every two hours for some time like a baby – so on October 2nd he was 20 1/2 years old and the thought of ….. well we won’t go there.

On note to make, giving a dog medicine is much easier than giving a cat medicine I have found out.

I am also continuing to paint the doors and trim in white, two down 10 more to go. I have saw horses and drop clothes and painting supplies in the living room. I don’t like the choas and the house looking like a mess, but it has to get done.

I have tile samples laid out on the kitchen counters too – decisions to make about new counter tops. Sorry guys… no granite or marble I COOK and don’t want to babysit or worry about sealing, spilling or have up keep on what little counter real estate we have.

My mom is in the hospital – please keep her in your prayers. Noting major but at 87 they take precautions or at least her doctor does. She has COPD and was having trouble breathing yesterday on the way to the doctors office, most likely set off by the colder, damp weather yesterday. They wanted to watch her, give some nebulizer treatments and check her pacemaker.

I’m at 105.6 today WuHu or I should say WuHu island is a major reason. On the new Wii Fit Plus I have unlocked a new route around the island and on the Cycling I have unlocked the long distance around the island. I really enjoy running around the island.

I am loving the Wii Fit Plus, yesterday I made the routine where you pick the exercises and 1,2 or 3 of each and it makes them into a time frame. I did one at 30 minutes and was having so much fun, did another for 20 minutes then played the new games for the last 10 to make an hour.

I finished painting the baseboard in the living room / dining room yesterday and primed the door frames and doors. I got one coat of the white semigloss one door and frame, second coat today and start on the next door and frame.

John comes home today Yipee haven’t seen him since Sunday morning.

Today is the first day of taking only one Levoxyl for my thyroid instead of 1 and 1/2 on Saturday and Sunday. I am hoping this puts my levels back to where they should be.

Really my thyroid issues again???

Posted by: Amy G. on: October 8, 2009

I knew it, my thyroid meds are out of whack. I have been losing my hair and feeling out of sorts. I went to get blood work from my Endo. In August one of my meds was changed to a generic and I thought that was the problem that it wasn’t working well enough and I’m going hypothyroid – but to my surprise my meds are now too much and I’m going hyperthyroid. Dr. Ferraro said it could be from the weight loss and taking the additives and preservatives out of my diet – my body is working more efficiently and I don’t need as high of a dose of my thyroid medication. Since I don’t have a thyroid I’m at the mercy of finding the perfect balance with my medication. For years it was up, down, up, down – then my Endo hit on the perfect combination of two thyroid medications and for the longest time it has been stable NOW it is out of whack again.

I am still at 106 – today.

I am LOVING the new Wii Fit Plus.

I am having fun doing the Biggest Loser – the new Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum is growing on me.

Today I am going to try and get the trim painted around the doors in the living room – I have been putting it off and that doesn’t help it get done.

I rejoined Fly Lady yesterday to see if I can get this house somewhat more organized. http://www.flylady.net/index.asp

I also found the cutest site for sewing it’s Jane’s Sew and So – I posted the link.

Wii Fit Plus – Wii Hoo

Posted by: Amy G. on: October 4, 2009

Wii Fit Plus was released today and boy is it FUN – 15 new games. In the yoga and strength training there are new poses.

Love the new routines you can build for yourself and it keeps calorie count. If you use the Nintendo DS personal training walking you can put in your steps for the day.

It is just great and I had so much fun I stayed on for an hour and a half.

Can it be October 1st????

Posted by: Amy G. on: October 1, 2009

Has it been since Sunday that I posted – Yikes.. time slips away. October 1st – Wow where did the summer go? There is a chill in the air this morning for sure, we were supposed to get our first dip into the 30’s last night.

I love this time of year and yet – the change of season into the cooler weather just slows me down, both physically and emotionally. I am hoping that by keep up with my Wii Fit and other virtual fitness games this year I can ward off the gloomies and weight.

I can’t wait till Sunday when the Wii Fit Plus is released!!!

I am 106 this morning, still working on the effects of John’s birthday dinner. It was for a good cause, right to celebrate my Hubby’s special day. I also paid for the birthday cake on Sunday night – I had hot flashes all night one after another from the sugar and carbs in the cake. We had salmon, broccoli, salad – stuff that wouldn’t trigger the hot flashes. It’s the cake – Bummer.

The other day I got my highest score ever in the soccer ball game and I ran around the Wii Island at 305% I was haul’in you know what……

I have lots of video stuff to do today for a seminar next week. I have cleaning and putting out my fall decorations AND I wanted to start working on a few sewing projects. Busy Busy – busy hands don’t pick up food RIGHT.

Today is John’s B-DAY….. & Wedding Food……

Posted by: Amy G. on: September 27, 2009

Happy Birthday Dear!!!

Just a quiet day for us to celebrate. He gets to go running in his new running shoes he got as his B-Day gift.

We went to a wedding last night and the food did me in as far as hot flashes by the time we left to head home. During the night, I was having the hot flashes that afterward you get chilled….

NOT FUN at all. Then this morning my Wii scale didn’t like it either – I don’t like to see those dots go up.

On the up side of that, some of the friends at the wedding haven’t seem me since April couldn’t get over how different I looked, not just the colored hair. I guess 27 pounds and from a size 12 to a size 4 gets noticed.

Today it’s more water, really watching what I eat, up the protein and do an awesome workout on the Wii and Active today.

I’m planning a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner with John today. NO we are not going to dinner, since he’s eaten out at restaurants for the last two weeks of business travel, eating at home is like another birthday gift to him.

Happy B-Day Dear

Yea my Hubby is home!

Posted by: Amy G. on: September 27, 2009

What a title for my post huh. Well, he’s been gone on a business trip for two weeks. AND….. well it starts to effect me and my progress ( is that crazy or what) but it’s true.

I am used to his being gone during the week – it’s the routine that is his job BUT when he’s gone for an extended amount of time I really miss him and it starts to effect how I eat, exercise and just function during my day.

So YEA he is home, until Monday morning when he jets off again for the week.

AND…. tomorrow is his Birthday! Usually he is gone on his B-Day, so that’s another added bonus for the weekend.

I am at the same weight that I was yesterday and the day before 105.8 – so maybe with my mood perked up – I’ll see changes in the scale too, or it may be that these last few pounds are STUBBORN and they don’t want to leave me.

Angela is having a fun time in Chicago with her brother and sister in law. She got to meet Wrigley aka (Wriggles)  their ohh too cute English Bulldog and see their new house for the first time.

Off to jump on my Wii Fit and have fun for the next hour.

Busy equals nothing……

Posted by: Amy G. on: September 27, 2009

Yesterday was a busy day for me. I finished adding the revisions, updating and retyping parts of the manual Hubs wrote, to accompany his seminar so it can go to the printer.

I also spent time with Angela before she jets off to Chicago to visit her brother, sister in law, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle and cousin. Not to mention heading to “Howl at the Moon” for a rockin’ B-Day party she has been planning.

http://www.howlatthemoon.com/locations/location-chicago

That warranted some mani-pedi time for the girls.

After dinner, Noel was dropped off so I can “dog sit” for the next week.

Well, yesterday I decided to do Active and Daisy Fuentes Pilates in the morning, so that was 22 minutes on Active and another 15 minutes of Pilates. I had good intensions on doing the Wii Fit in the afternoon. I got in 38 minutes of yoga and strength training. I didn’t get in the aerobics and balance games. I also didn’t do good with drinking my water. AND…. today are the results of my poor planning, when I get off schedule my weight goes up. So today I will stick to my routine.

The fall chill is in the air today. I bought a new Yankee Candle yesterday apple spice. That always gets me in the mood to clean, I guess that will burn off some calories too.

105.8 today – I’m happy

Posted by: Amy G. on: September 23, 2009

Today I am 105.8 so Yippee!!! That is nice to see I’m finally making progress after returning from traveling. Frustrated that it’s taken me 2 weeks since returning home to get here – or where I was before I left on vacation.

Part of the problem is, I think a change in one of my thyroid meds It was switched from the brand name to generic and my body is having an issue with that – or I should say I can feel the difference.

I watched the Biggest Loser last night. Inspired me to get out my riser and Wii Fit balance board and do some free stepping. I did 2972 steps in 30 minutes while watching the program. That’s the most I have ever done, the last time I watched television while doing the free step on my Wii Fit, I reached 2920 in 30 minutes.

I know the contestants on the Biggest Loser use a gym – but I have gotten great results using the Wii Fit and EA Sports Active – going from 131.8 to 105.8 since April 25, 2009. That’s with fighting menopause too, which makes progress harder plus my age. Following the principals of The Eat Clean Diet is also part of the progress I have made.

On October 6th the new Jillian Michael’s Fitness Ultimatum 2010 for the Nintendo Wii is being released. It looks really good and it’s on my “shopping list” of new Wii games. I can’t wait till the new Wii Fit Plus comes out on October 4th. I will have new exercise programs to keep me motivated all winter. http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/26402

I also love watching Ruby on Style Network. I am going today to buy her new book with my gift card from Barnes and Nobel. I know people look and say “what’s 25 pounds” but for me a pound is a pound and you have to have a mind set and work to get the numbers going down. She is an inspiration to me.

The dots moved down today

Posted by: Amy G. on: September 22, 2009

The scale moved down today – yipee! It’s a small move, but it’s a move at that.

Yesterday was day 150 on the Wii Fit. I did an hour on the Wii Fit and added 22 minutes of pilates with Daisy Fuentes Pilates using the Wii Balance Board. Today I will do the EA Sports Active I’m on day 11 of the 31 Day Challenge – my third Challenge.

I made it a point to go to bed much earlier than I have been, instead of staying up watching movies. That was one of the things that Dr. Oz stressed about getting enough sleep and weight loss – I guess he’s right.

I made a Crock•Pot of chicken soup made with 4 skinless thighs Sunday night and by lunch on Monday it was done. I have lunch and dinner for the next few days. It is so hard cooking for one when Hubs is traveling on business.

I added more protein to my diet yesterday than I had been eating and I know that is a help, especially with the menopause hot flashes which for me are triggered by carbs and salt.

There is the start to a chill in the air, fall is officially here. Now I really am going to have to watch my eating and exercise habits because I tend to snack or eat more when it’s colder. I also tend to not be moving as much, so I need to push the exercise and I can’t wait for the new Wii Fit Plus to come out on October 4th it looks so awesome.

It hit me this morning as I was letting the “fur child” out – I don’t have any fall or winter clothes that fit, except jeans. Going from a size 12 to a size 4 – a lot of my summer shorts were drawstring and tank tops, not so much with fall and winter clothes. Time to plan a wardrobe and get sewing.

Speaking of sewing – I started a Burda coat last spring and didn’t finish it because it’s corduroy. Good thing I didn’t because I had to take it apart from the waist down and thought that would be what I needed to alter. I lost so much weight the sleeves are long because the shoulders don’t fit anymore. I will have to recut the shoulders and hopefully not the sleeve cap.
